  All of us who professionally use the media are shapers of society. We  can vulgarize that society, we can brutalize it or we can help it move  onto a higher level. But we don’t often realize how the media is  impacting our society? Whether it is ​influencing or manipulating the  society​?   Media is the reflection of our society.  It depicts what and how our  society works. As we all know, media, either it is print, electronic or the  web is the only medium, which helps in making people informed.

  It also helps in entertaining the public, educate and make people aware  of the current happenings. Media has today become the voice of our society. It has become the most powerful instrument of change. Starting  from the current happenings all over the world leading a way to the  lifestyle of celebrities. It acts like a trap capturing our minds. It is not  only ​influencing but also manipulating ​the minds of human beings. 

  There is a variety of media platform that has stimulated the thoughts of  young generations and other sections of society more eloquently. It  promotes the culture of showbiz and develops false hopes among the  youth. Social media websites are no longer performing an envisaged  function of positive communication link among friends, family and  professionals. It is a veritable battle ground, where insults fly from  human quiver, damaging lives, destroying self esteem and person’s 

sense of self worth.

  Social media has made it very easy to spread information quickly.  Because facebook and twitter timelines move so quickly, viewers don’t  often verify what they have seen. A great deal of content is also spread  through images and memes. Media acts as a long chain of 

communication which spreads  like a wildfire. 

Media is like a megaphone. It amplifies our ability to reach more  people. We all know the ability of media platforms to reach wider  audience. Hence, we too agree on its ability to promote  crimes. If we  are not careful, newspapers will help us hating the people who are  being oppressed and loving the ones who are doing the oppression.  Whether old or young, all are fascinated by the beauty of media. During  the cricket matches, promotion of semi-nudity in the form of cheer  leaders, development of an eye over the gossips of various daily soaps  and forecasting of astrological programs and teleshopping are  various ways where the very purpose of media is diluted. Media is 

becoming more dumber day by day. Just for the sake of money, media  publishes many advertisements. now -a-days, we can see more  advertisements than the news in media.  

Media is the most  powerful instrument of change in society, however, it should assume  responsibility, develop initiative for the protection and promotion of  societal interest rather than focusing on its own TRP. media must not  be used to impress people, it must be used to impact people. The  reason why we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our  behind the scenes with everyone else’s highlight reel.
